Oak Foundation

Problem
The Oak Foundation sought to evaluate the performance of its marine-related grantmaking. The foundation wanted to know which of their grant approaches was most effective and how they should focus their grantmaking in the future.

Solution
To systematically evaluate the Oak Foundation’s grant portfolio, CEA analyzed grantee performance and compared conservation outcomes with project costs. CEA conferred with key foundation staff to understand their objectives and help develop a set of principles for implementing the group’s strategy.

Result
With a better understanding of its effectiveness, the foundation has concentrated its grantmaking on a smaller set of strategies and regions.
