Funders for Sustainable Food Systems

Problem

The Funders for Sustainable Food Systems (FSFS), a California-based group of public and private grantmakers, was in need of staff to organize and execute its goals of raising awareness and funding for sustainable agriculture and food systems in the state.

Solution

To help FSFS achieve its goals, CEA helped define and manage all of the group’s organizational and governance activities. CEA continued the process of completing and distributing FSFS’s report on the state of agriculture in California, and developed an educational strategy for foundations and other funders.

Result

CEA’s leadership role increased the FSFS’s impact, boosted its membership by 25%, and spread its vision of sustainable food systems to the philanthropic community. CEA helped to guide FSFS through the process of developing and structuring a new foundation collaborative—the Roots of Change. Fund.
